Nasal Oil Remedy

It is Cold & Flu season again. Sometimes we lose our sense of smell due to illness. This awesome recipe that I found in an old journal might be the key to increasing your sense of smell for a variety of reasons. This recipe serves to nourish rather than treat and get inflammation down so your body can hopefully do the rest!

If you have never used nasal oil before, it is very easy. Be careful not to go to far up into your nose,causing more irritation. It is best to NEVER stick anything into your nostrils, obviously. So the easiest and safest method is to put the oil into a small dish and dip your little finger into the dish, then insert only at the base of nostril, your little finger and GENTLY rub the oil around and inhale. This can be done once per day or as needed. You can even use olive oil or coconut oil alone for a soothing effect to dry nasal passages during the winter months.

To make this Ayurvedic style oil combine together the following;

5 teaspoons of NATURAL Sesame oil

1 teaspoon of wheatgerm oil

1/4 teaspoon of St. John's Wart oil

1/4 teaspoon of mullein infused oil (Put dried Mullein herb into a carrier oil such as olive oil which is great for nasal passages and let sit, shaking daily for 2 weeks then strain through cheesecloth into a clean jar to use the oil in this recipe or other recipes)

1 drop of Frankincense oil

These oils are rich in anti-inflammatory properties and also help to support the respiratory system. Mullein especially has been used for centuries for conditions like asthma, bronchitis and even TB. In old Appalachian Folk Medicine, cough syrup was made out of Mullein. Mullein (dried) can also be used in a facial steam to help with many nasal and respiratory symptoms. I always keep dried Mullein in my herbal medicine cabinet!!!

Sesame Oil has also been used for centuries in the East and is known to balance Vata body types and is VERY moisturizing.

I found this great video on you-tube that makes it very easy to find out your Dosha Body Type. Watch it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=wtVsFfFeYNs

Have a pen and a piece of paper ready as he asks you to tally up answers to his questions in order to find out your dominant type.
